SEC-K - kitchen interlock

SEC-K - kitchen interlock

SEC-K – Ventilation interlock system for commercial kitchens.

Ventilation interlock and gas proving system with multiple in-built features which can be used where and when required.

  • Gas pressure proving
  • Ventilation Interlock
  • Carbon Dioxide level monitoring
  • Gas detection/Carbon Monoxide
  • Demand controlled ventilation
  • Built in fire test isolation control
  • Out of hours CO monitoring and alarm

The recently updated V4 system can monitor for carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxde (CO2) out of hours so even when the panel is switched off an alarm can be raised or ventilation switched on. This provides additional safety monitoring particularly if solid fuel appliances are installed within the kitchen.

Gas Pressure proving
Using the patented differential pressure proving method the system checks the gas pipe work and appliances in a kitchen for gas leaks. It also monitors for low pressure and over pressure without opening the solenoid valve, making it the only truly safe method of proving available.

Ventilation interlock
It is a requirement (See BS 6173/2009 & IGEM UP19/Edition 1) that any mechanical ventilation within a kitchen environment (supply and extract) is switched on and running before the use of any gas appliances can take place. If the ventilation is not switched on, the LCD display informs the operator of the fans that are off, to switch them on and reset the panel.

Carbon Dioxide monitoring
When fitted with CO2 detectors, the SEC-K can provide catering staff with information based on the room ventilation quality. This can be used to remind staff to clean any fan filters or increase the ventilation during higher levels of occupancy or cooking load.

Demand controlled ventilation
The SEC-K can monitor the carbon dioxide level and temperature to control area ventilation in commercial kitchens.
This enables energy and cost savings because the ventilation rate is adjusted in relation to demand. Where the CO2 level rises above prescribed limits, the system can isolate a gas supply.

Gas detection
The SEC has been designed to accept multiple gas detectors including natural and LPG gases, carbon monoxide, oxygen depletion, as well as CO2. Isolation of gas will occur upon detection of the target gases at prescribed levels.

  • 5 Year Warranty

    5 Year Warranty

Medem’s industry leading five-year warranty is a demonstration of the company’s confidence in the quality and design of our products.

This applies to the main panels and sender units, gas detectors carry a two year warranty.

Where we commission an installed system the warranty is extended from five to ten years. At the time of commissioning photos and gas pressure readings are recorded along with other relevent details of the installation. A 24 hour help line number and serial number is attached with the panel and all details are then entered on to the Medem database.

    5 & 10 year warrenty

  • Electrical Isolation

    Electrical Isolation

Option to control the electrical supply via a contactor, this allows a single point of isolation for multiple services

  • Engineer Functions

    Engineer Functions

Our systems include several engineer functions which allow a range of information to be displayed on screen.

This not only aids in the original setup and commissioning but also enables us to provide a greater level of technical support on the telephone.

  • Fan interlocking

    Fan interlocking

Fan interlocking is used where you require isolation of the gas supply when the ventilation is not running.

In commercial kitchens it is a requirement to meet current regulations BS6173, BB100, UP11 (see our standards section for more information).

Our recommended method of interlocking is “current monitoring” (see our model CM2M-K)

  • Fire Test Isolation Mode

    Fire Test Isolation Mode

Fire Test isolation; In the event of a fire alarm test being undertaken the system can be set into a fire test isolation mode with three consecutive presses of the display detectors button (indicated) so ensuring the gas remains live during the test procedure.

Once the test is completed the panel will revert to normal operation. If at any time you wish to cancel the operation of the fire test isolation repeat the three button presses on the panel and the panel will once again be connected to the fire panel.

Note. In the event of an emergency requiring the isolation of the gas supply whilst the fire test isolation function is active the emergency stop button on the panel (and any others fitted) will still isolate the gas supply.

    Fire Test Mode

  • Over Pressure Alert

    Over Pressure Alert

New to our systems is an over pressure alert

Should the gas pressure rise above 70 mbar while gas is being used the panel will isolate the gas supply by closing the gas valve.
When the panel is first switched on and if at that time the gas pressure is over 70 mbar then the gas valve will remain closed.
Only a Medem gas pressure proving system measuring pressure on both sides of the valve can operate in the way described.
70 mbar is above the pressure most appliances and other equipment (in buildings) has been designed to use, higher pressures can occur where a gas regulator fails.
